Ian is a registered Specialist Periodontist (Specialist in gums and gum disease).
He qualified from Leeds in 1998. He was awarded Membership of the Faculty of General Practitioners after successful examination in 2001. He completed his Master Degree in Periodontology (treatment of gum disease and gum problems) in 2010. In 2013 he was admitted to the General Dental Councils Specialist List in Periodontics and as such is one of only a small number of Specialist Periodontist in the UK.
Ian has worked in prominent specialist practices for the last 14 years and splits his clinical time between Rose Lane Dental Practice and Clinic 334, a prestigious Specialist referral practice in South Cheshire.
Ian has taught at Liverpool University for 15 years and was the Teaching Lead in Periodontology until he stepped down in 2016. He maintains a link to the university and is still a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology. In this role he has been responsible for undergraduate training and postgraduate training, training the specialist of the future.
Ian also lectures all offer the UK to qualified dentists, hygienists and therapists and together with his teaching partner, Phil Ower, runs the Periodontal teaching on the Royal College of Surgeons Restorative Diploma in Restorative Dentistry.
He has lectured at most of the UK’s biggest dental conferences including the. British Dental Association national conference, British Dental Association Scotland national conference, British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry conference, Dentistry Show and the British Society of Periodontology national conference.
Ian is the Merseyside and Cheshire Representative for the British Society of Periodontology, has served on their Council as Honorary Editor and is part of their lecturing faculty.
Ian does not accept new patients for general dentistry and his patients are referred from their general dental practices all over the North West and North Wales for the management of complex and advance periodontal disease, surgical treatments, dental implant complications and cosmetic treatments including gum grafts and crown lengthening.
