Home-use bleaching kits involve placing a hydrogen peroxide solution in custom made bleaching trays which are worn over patients’ teeth at night for up to two weeks. For patients who cannot tolerate trays overnight, teeth can be whitened in the day for 1-2 hours. This may take 4 – 6 weeks to achieve the desired outcome.
These techniques all target stain particles from food and drink which get trapped in the surface layers of tooth enamel. Toothpastes try to remove them, while hydrogen peroxide bleaches them.

How long does whitening take?
The system takes approximately 4 – 6 weeks to have its full effect but you can stop treatment early if you are happy with the colour at any point – you are in control. The effect is cumulative so missing a night is not a problem, just tag that treatment on at the end.
How long do the effects last?
The effects last for many years but you can “top up” for special occasions, i.e. Wedding etc. for 1 or 2 nights once a year if you wish. If you cannot wear the trays in your mouth overnight you can whiten for 1 – 2 hours during the day.
